Discover the artists, stories and creative opportunities shaping Britain's vibrant and diverse art scene. The British Artists Journal brings together artist interviews, behind-the-scenes stories, art news, exhibitions, open calls and opportunities for artists across the UK.
We explore the lives and creative processes of painters, sculptors, illustrators, photographers, musicians, dancers, designers and other creative talents across the UK. From emerging artists to established professionals, our interviews and features offer a closer look at their work, inspirations, challenges and artistic journeys.
Explore open calls for artists across the UK, including exhibition opportunities, art competitions, grants, artist residencies, public art commissions and creative funding. We highlight opportunities in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Bristol, Cardiff, Belfast and beyond, helping emerging and established artists showcase their work, connect with galleries and arts organisations, and advance their careers. Check individual deadlines and application requirements before applying.
Beyond artist stories and opportunities, the Journal covers British art exhibitions, cultural events, creative communities, independent galleries and developments in contemporary art. We explore the people, ideas and artistic practices contributing to Britain's evolving cultural landscape.
Artists based in the UK can apply to be featured in our Journal or Artist Visits series. Through interviews, articles and short videos, we introduce artists, explore their creative processes and share the stories behind their work.
Every month, we select a small number of artists from the applications we receive. Selected artists are featured completely free of charge, helping them showcase their work and reach a wider national and international audience. Artists are encouraged to create their free profile on BritainArtists.com before applying.
As part of the wider Artistivo community, British Artists celebrates human creativity, artistic diversity and the people behind the work. We aim to connect creative communities across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland while giving independent artists greater visibility.
All Journal articles are free to read, with no subscription or account required. Whether you're an artist searching for opportunities, a collector discovering British talent, or simply exploring the UK's creative culture, the British Artists Journal is a place to discover art and the stories behind it.
